According to the Department of Toxic Substances Control, Electronic waste, or “e-waste,” is any unwanted electronic device or cathode ray tube (CRT) that is not disposable by household waste methods.  E-waste is hazardous because it may contain materials such as lead and mercury. In California, it is a crime to improperly dispose of e-waste.
